Therefore, I can see that it would be tricky and could reflect poorly on characters if they stayed in the battle party for the whole game, in light of this context. I say partially, because I get the system for the afterlife in the game and have seen what happens in certain conditions in the story. ![]() ![]() While I don't know what happens later, it makes me partially wonder why the actual ghosts couldn't participate in battle, especially after something that happens following that first major checkpoint. It feels like they should have had scenes to properly introduce them, but only the first one you get seems to at the moment. On the negative side of things, while I like the aspects serving as battle partners, they kind of join the party aplomb of nothing. Last, the battles offer a surprising amount of depth with various things, such as status effects, revival during battle, having full stats for each battle, and even the tombstones. Further, while you don't quite get partner overworld moves, you DO get some tools to assist with further environment interaction throughout the game, which is a decent stopgap. The ghost NPCs can be fun at times, especially that purple cool chick (don't remember her name ATM) and that detective's apprentice wannabe guy. I also like the semi-Etrian Odyssey/Pokemon-esque party composition mixed with the usual Paper Mario/Mario Story party member acquirement, since it adds a little replay value for players who want to try out different teams after a certain point. The reason is since it allows them to make fewer yet more expressive sprites, as the movement tweening allows natural movement like walking and stuff. It's alright, and there's things to like.but others things I'm meh and befuddled about.įor the things I like and appreciate so far, I like how the dev, as a way to account for being comparatively smaller to regular devs, picked ghosts in this chibi style at all for the setting. I'm 5 hours into it (after the first major checkpoint in the game). ![]()
